After 40 years of steady climbing, Sara reached the top of the list of the most popular girl's names in 2002. For the boys Markus tops the list for the fourth year in a row. While boy's names are quite stable, short names ending with an "A" have growing popularity among the girls.

Sara, Ida and Thea top the list of the most popular girl's names in 2002, sending Julie, the top in 2001,back to fourth place. The most climbing name in 2002 is Tuva, that moved 25 steps upwards to number twelve. Other climbers are Thea, Dina, Celina and Emma, all of them short names ending with an "A". The figure shows the summed popularity of girl's names with four characters having an "A" in the end. The peak around 1880 has to do with the name Anna, and Nina showed up around 1970.

Boy's names very stable

Markus/Marcus is on top of the list for the fourth year in a row. Kristian/Christian, number two in 2001, has been among the four names on top continuously since 1977. Mathias moved up from the sixth to the third place, pushing Martin down to the fourth place. Other climbers are Sebastian, Tobias and Jesper.
