Nora and Lucas most popular in 2012

Nora and Lucas/Lukas were the most popular names for newborn babies in 2012. Both of these names have been among the more popular names for a while.

Last year’s most popular names - Emma and Emil - dropped to second and third place respectively. Mathias was the second most popular boys’ name and Sofie took third place for the girls.

The trends with girls’ names ending with “a” or “ah” and Biblical names for the boys are still dominant, but have reached their peak.

Local variations are difficult to find, but Mohammad is still the most popular name for boys in Oslo.
