4 604 800 residents in Norway

The population growth in 2004 is calculated to be 27 300 persons - an increase of about 0.6 per cent. According to calculations made by Statistics Norway 4 604 800 persons are expected to be residents in Norway at the turn of the year.

The population is calculated for the entire country, the counties and the municipalities. The population is calculated based on information from the population register, using data on births, deaths, in- and out -migration until 1 December 2004. The population growth in December is calculated in the same way as the relative population growth was in December 2003. If the number of births, deaths and migrations change essentially from December last year compared with December 2004 the population will vary in time with the reports. Due to this, the population for 1 January 2005 has to be seen as an estimate.
