4 521 000 residents by the turn of the year

Approximately 4 521 000 persons are expected to be resident in Norway by the turn of the year according to the latest population estimates by Statistics Norway.

Preliminary figures indicate a population growth of 18 000 persons in 2001. This represents a decrease of 6 900 persons compared to 2001. The population growth is due to a birth excess of 12 300 persons (56 500 births minus 44 200 deaths) and a migration excess from abroad comprising 5 700 persons.

The estimates are based on the last three quarters. The estimates for immigration and migration have some uncertainty.

The figures are only presented for the whole country as an aggregate, there are no figures for counties and municipalities.
