Decreasing share of workers in manufacturing

Workers as per cent of the total employment in manufacturing decreased from 67 to 55 per cent from 1981 to 2002. Managers and highly skilled employees increased their share

The number of workers in manufacturing decreased by about 90 000 persons, while the total numbers of employed persons in manufacturing went down from 370 000 in 1981 to 293 000 in 2002 according to figures from the National Accounts. Managers increased their share from 5 per cent in 1981 to 9 per cent in 2002, and highly skilled persons from 13 to 22 per cent in the same period.

Child-care workers

The number of child-care workers increased from 2001 to 2002 by 9 000 according to the Labour Force Survey (LFS). This occupation employed 64 000 persons in 2002.

Managers by gender

10 per cent of all employed men are managers, while only 5 per cent of women. In private enterprises the rates are 11 for men and 6 women, and in public sector 9 and 3 per cent.
