Large decrease in number of job vacancies

The number of job vacancies decreased by 10 per cent from the 4th quarter of 2014 to the 4th quarter of 2015. The decrease in the production of oil and gas was 78 per cent. Manufacturing saw a decrease in job vacancies of 29 per cent compared with the same quarter the previous year.

There were 47 300 job vacancies in the 4th quarter of 2015; 5 400 fewer than the same quarter the previous year. In line with the decrease in the number of job vacancies, the job vacancy rate decreased from 2.0 per cent in the 4th quarter of 2014 to 1.6 in the same quarter of 2015. The percentage of job vacancies is measured as a percentage of the total number of jobs, i.e. the number of employees and vacancies. 

In manufacturing, the number of job vacancies decreased by 700 from the 4th quarter of 2014 to the same quarter of 2015 – corresponding to a decrease of 29 per cent. In mining and quarrying – an industry dominated by the production of oil and gas – the number of job vacancies decreased by 78 per cent. There has been a decrease in this industry every quarter from the 4th quarter of 2012, from 2000 job vacancies in the 4th quarter of 2012 to 200 in the same quarter of 2015. 

Increase in some industries

The number of job vacancies in domestictrade was 5 400 in the 4th quarter of 2015. This is an increase of 1 300, or 33 per cent, from the same quarter the previous year. In public administration, the number of job vacancies was 3 700; an increase of 1 000.
