Fall in manufacturing job vacancies, increase in construction

The number of job vacancies in manufacturing decreased by 31 per cent from the 2nd quarter of 2014 to the 2nd quarter of 2015. The decrease in oil and gas continued with 59 per cent, while construction had an increase of 42 per cent compared with the same quarter the previous year.

There were 63 200 job vacancies in the 2nd quarter of 2015; 2 800 fewer than the previous year. In line with the decrease in the number of job vacancies, the job vacancy rate decreased from 2.5 per cent in the 2nd quarter of 2014 to 2.3 in the same quarter of 2015. The percentage of job vacancies is measured as a percentage of the total number of jobs, i.e. the number of employees and vacancies.

In manufacturing, the number of job vacancies decreased by 1 100 from the 2nd quarter of 2014 to the same quarter of 2015 – corresponding to a decrease of 31 per cent. In mining and quarrying – an industry dominated by the production of oil and gas – the number of job vacancies decreased by 59 per cent. There was an increase in job vacancies in construction, up by 1 900 from the same quarter the previous year.

Decrease in some service industries

The number of job vacancies in administrative and support service activities decreased by 3 000, or 31 per cent, from the 2nd quarter of 2014 to the 2nd quarter of 2015. In information and communication, the number of job vacancies decreased by 1 000 in the same period, also corresponding to 31 per cent. There was an increase of 700 job vacancies in accommodation and food service activities.
