Drop in employment among disabled men

The employment rate among disabled men over the age of 40 decreased from 2010 to 2011. Among younger men and among women with disabilities there were only minor changes.

Among disabled men aged between 40 and 60 the employment rate decreased by 8 percentage points from the second quarter of 2010 to the same quarter of 2011. Furthermore, there was a decline in the employment rate among males as a whole.

In the second quarter of 2011, 42 per cent of the disabled population aged 15-66 was employed, compared to 74 per cent among the whole population.

25 per cent want paid work

One quarter of the disabled people not employed wanted to have paid work in the second quarter of 2011. Just 17 per cent of these people were classified as unemployed, according to the criteria on active job seeking and availability for a job. The proportion of people who want paid work has remained the same during the last three years.

High level of part-time work

Forty-seven per cent of the disabled people in employment were working part-time, compared to 26 per cent of the employed people in total. The part-time rate among disabled people was 61 per cent for females and 31 per cent for males.
