Unemployment 3.8 per cent

There were 103 000 unemployed persons in Norway in October, corresponding to 3.8 per cent of the labour force.

The Labour Force Survey (LFS) shows that the seasonally-adjusted unemployment was 3.8 per cent of the labour force in October (average of September-November). Compared with July (average of June-August), this was up 0.3 percentage points – or 9 000 persons. This increase is within the error margin. The increase in unemployment shown by the LFS came among those aged 25-74.

The number of people registered as unemployed or on government initiatives to promote employment with the Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) decreased by 1 000 from July to October. This figure is also seasonally adjusted and based on a three-month average.

Small changes in number of employed persons

According to the LFS, the seasonally-adjusted number of employed persons decreased by 5 000 from July to October – a decrease which is within the error margin. During 2014, there has been an increase in the seasonally adjusted number of employed persons aged 25-74 years. Among those aged 24 years or younger, there has been a decrease in this period.

The share of employed persons corresponded to 68.2 per cent of the population aged 15-74 years in October; down 0.4 percentage points from July.
