Stable unemployment

There were 94 000 unemployed persons in July, corresponding to 3.4 per cent of the labour force.

The Labour Force Survey (LFS) shows that the seasonally-adjusted unemployment was 3.4 per cent of the labour force in July (average of June–August). This was unchanged from April (average of March–May). The seasonally-adjusted unemployment figure increased by 2 000 during this period: a change which is within the LFS error margin . By comparison, the number of people registered as unemployed or on government initiatives to promote employment with the Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) decreased by 1 000 during this period. This figure is also seasonally adjusted and based on a three-month average.

Stable employment

According to the LFS, there were 13 000 more employed persons in July than in April – adjusted for seasonal variations. This increase is within the error margin, but still in line with the development last year. From July 2013 to July 2014, the number of employed persons increased by 32 000. In July 2014, the share of employed persons corresponded to 68.7 per cent of the population aged 15-74 years; up 0.1 percentage points from April the same year and down 0.1 percentage point from July the previous year.

Unemployment down in Sweden

The seasonally-adjusted unemployment in Sweden decreased from 8.1 per cent in April to 7.8 per cent in July. In Denmark, unemployment increased by 0.2 percentage points in this period to 6.6 per cent. Unemployment in the EU15 was 10.5 per cent in July, down from 10.6 per cent in April. The USA also had a decrease in unemployment of 0.1 percentage point during this period, to 6.2 per cent in July.
