Decrease in job vacancies
In the 3rd quarter of 2013, there were 59 100 job vacancies, down 1 800 from the 3rd quarter of 2012. The decrease mainly occurred in industries dominated by the private sector.

In line with the decrease in the number of job vacancies , the percentage of job vacancies also decreased. The percentage of job vacancies is measured as a percentage of the total number of jobs, i.e. the number of employees and vacancies. In the 3rd quarter of 2013, the job vacancies corresponded to 2.3 per cent of the total number of jobs, down 0.1 percentage point from the 3rd quarter of 2012.
Decrease in administrative and support service activities
In administrative and support service activities, there was a decrease of 1 400 job vacancies. Domestic trade had a decrease of 1 200 job vacancies, compared with the previous year. Nevertheless, both of these industries had a higher percentage of job vacancies than the average of all industries combined. The administrative and support service activities industry has largely had the highest percentage of job vacancies every year since 2010, when these statistics were established.
Unchanged percentage of job vacancies in the EU
The EU had 1.5 per cent job vacancies in the 2nd quarter of 2013, unchanged from the same quarter of the previous year. The comparison with other countries is based on the 2nd quarter of 2013, as the figures for the 3rd quarter of 2013 have not yet been published. The job vacancy rates between countries in the EEA vary considerably. In the 2nd quarter of 2013, the percentage of job vacancies was 0.4 per cent in both Portugal and Poland, 1.6 per cent in Sweden and 2.5 per cent in Germany. As a comparison, Norway had a job vacancy rate of 2.9 in this quarter.
Agriculture, forestry and fishing are excluded from this international comparison.
