At the end of the fourth quarter of 2007, the largest non-financial Norwegian companies had total external liabilities valued at NOK 641 billion. This was NOK 70 billion more than at the end of the third quarter of 2007.

Also compared with the fourth quarter of 2006, there has been an increase in external liabilities of NOK 70 billion, or 12 per cent.

While the long-term external liabilities increased by NOK 18 billion, from the third to the fourth quarter of 2007, the increase in the short-term external liabilities was almost NOK 52 billion.

At the end of the fourth quarter of 2007, two thirds of the external liabilities were long-term.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on a survey of the 600 largest non-financial companies. The size of the company is measured by assets and liabilities in foreign countries, foreign shares and foreign ownership.

The data are based on accounting legislation, and the values do not necessarily give a good picture of the real or market value of the assets.
