Slight decrease in number of bankruptcies

In the first quarter of 2011, the number of bankruptcies was 1 179, which is a decline of 3 per cent compared with the same quarter last year.

The largest decline in percentage terms was in the counties of Østfold and Vestfold, with 27 per cent fewer bankruptcies. In the counties of Rogaland and Oppland the number of bankruptcies went up the most, with 38 and 33 per cent respectively. Rogaland is also the county with the highest rise in absolute figures, with 28 more bankruptcies.

Most in wholesale and construction

Three out of four bankruptcies, a total of 872, were bankruptcies related to enterprises, but do not include sole proprietorships. Almost one third of them were within wholesale and retail trade. Compared with the first quarter last year, this figure fell by 11 per cent.

The remaining 307 bankruptcies were related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. More than one third were within construction.
