Continued decline in bankruptcies

In the first quarter of 2012, the number of bankruptcies was 900. This is a drop of 22 per cent compared with the same quarter last year.

The largest declines in percentage terms were in the counties of Telemark and Hedmark, with 54 and 51 per cent fewer bankruptcies respectively. Oslo was the county with the largest drop in absolute figures, with 78 fewer bankruptcies. Møre og Romsdal was the county with the highest increase, with 71 per cent or 22 more bankruptcies.

A total of 661 bankruptcies were related to enterprises (excl. sole proprietorships). 28 per cent of these bankruptcies were in wholesale and retail trade. The remaining 239 bankruptcies were related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. One out of three was in construction.

In the first six months of 2012, a total of 1 975 bankruptcies were registered. This is a decline of 15 per cent compared with the same period last year.
