Continued decline in bankruptcies

In the first quarter of 2008, 753 bankruptcies were registered. This is a decrease of 14 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.

With a decrease in the number of bankruptcies of 77 per cent from the first quarter of 2007, the county of Nord-Trøndelag experienced the strongest decrease in relative figures. The county of Akershus had the largest decline in absolute figures, with 58 fewer bankruptcies. In the county of Vest-Agder, the number of bankruptcies doubled in the first quarter of 2008 compared with the same period last year.

547 of the bankruptcies were related to enterprises (exclusive sole proprietorships), of which one in four was set up in 2006 or 2007. The remaining 206 bankruptcies were related to sole proprietorships and also include personal bankruptcies. One third was bankruptcies in the construction industry.
