Six out of ten enterprises survived

Six out of ten new established enterprises in 2001 survived into 2002 in terms of turnover and persons employed. These figures include all new enterprises except public administration, agriculture, forestry and fishing.

New statistics from the Central Register of Establishments and Enterprises of Statistics Norway

substantiate this development.

Highest survival rate within financial intermediation

The highest survival rate is within financial intermediation, 78 per cent, and Hotels and restaurants, 75 per cent. Real estate, renting and business activities has the largest portion of survived enterprises, 37 per cent, and also the largest portion of the growth in the number of persons employed from 2001 to 2002.

Private limited liability companies have the highest survival rate - 78 per cent. 28 per cent of all new established enterprises in 2001 were private limited liability companies, whereas they constitute 38 per cent of all survived enterprises. The corresponding figures for sole proprietorships are 63 and 53 per cent. Only half of the new established sole proprietorships survived.

The private limited liability companies also have the largest portion of the growth in the number of persons employed.

Survival and growth by county - dominance by Oslo

Most new established enterprises and survived enterprises are found in Oslo, but also the lowest survival rate of all counties. Nearly one third of the growth in the number of persons employed was in survived enterprises in Oslo.
