Growth in retail sales

The turnover in retail sales was NOK 210 billion in the first six months of 2014, which corresponds to an increase of NOK 7 billion or 3.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2013.

By comparison, the Index of retail sales showed an increase of 3.2 per cent during the same period.

Retail sales via mail order firms or via the Internet and specialised stores selling a variety of hardware, paints and glass had the highest growth. Internet sales had a turnover of more than NOK 6 billion, up 15.4 per cent compared to the same period last year. The specialised hardware stores had a turnover of NOK 11 billion, up 11.6 per cent from the year before.

In May and June 2014 (the third period) the turnover was NOK 77 billion; an increase of 3.5 per cent or NOK 2.6 billion compared with the same period in 2013.

Trade and repair of motor vehicles increased

The sale and repair of motor vehicles had an increase of NOK 4.5 billion during the first six months of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013; a growth of 4.5 per cent.

In the third period the sale and repair of motor vehicles increased by NOK 2.1 billion compared to the same period in 2013; an increase of 6.2 per cent.

Wholesale of NOK 426 billion

The turnover in wholesale was NOK 426 billion in the first four months of 2014, which is an increase of 5.3 per cent compared to the same period last year.

In the third period in 2014 the growth in wholesale turnover was NOK 8 billion or 5.7 per cent from the same period in 2013.
