Sales of motor vehicles increase

Compared with the same period last year, retail sales of motor vehicles increased by NOK 222 million in July and August this year. This is equivalent to an increase of 2.1 per cent.

During the first eight months this year the total sales of motor vehicles and repair of motor vehicles decreased by 12.5 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Retail sales up NOK 1.1 billion

Retail sales excluding motor vehicles rose by NOK 1.1 billion or 1.6 per cent from July and August last year to the same period this year. During the first eight months of 2009 the retail sales increased by NOK 393 million or 0.2 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The turnover in wholesale declined by NOK 36.6 billion during the first eight month of 2009. This is equivalent to a decline of 7.1 per cent compared with the same period in 2008. In July and August, wholesalers experienced a decrease of NOK 8.9 billion or 7.0 per cent.
