Retail sales for NOK 178 billion

Total retail sales in Norway during the first six months this year was NOK 178 billion. This is NOK 724 million, or 0.4 per cent less than the same period last year.

In May and June 2009 the retail sales rose by NOK 103 million or 0.2 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The turnover of wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased by NOK 13.5 billion the first six months this year. This is equivalent to a decline of 15.8 per cent compared with the same period last year. In May and June 2009 the turnover decreased by NOK 2.9 billion or 9.9 per cent.

During the first six months 2009 the turnover in wholesale declined by NOK 29 billion. This is equivalent to a decline of 7.4 per cent. In May and June wholesalers experienced a decrease of NOK 11 billion or 8.2 per cent.
