Decrease in sales of motor vehicles

In July and August 2008 sales of motor vehicles decreased by NOK 2.7 billion, or 14.0 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Compared with the same period last year, sales of motor vehicles decreased by NOK 1.4 billion during the first eight months this year. The sales of petrol rose by 11.8 or 10.9 per cent respectively.

Retail sales up 4.1 per cent

In July and August the retail sales rose by NOK 2.3 billion or 4.1 per cent compared with the same period last year. Retail sales increased by NOK 10.1 billion during the first eight months this year compared with the same period in 2007. This is equivalent to a rise of 5.0 per cent.

Wholesale up NOK 11.5 billion

The turnover in wholesale rose by NOK 11.5 billion, or 9.8 per cent in July and August 2008 compared with the same period in 2007. During the first eight months this year the turnover in wholesale increased by NOK 44.8 billion, or 9.4 per cent.

The figures do not include value added tax.
