Retail sales up by NOK 6.3 billion

Retail sales increased by NOK 6.3 billion during the first four months of 2008 compared with the same period in 2007. This is equivalent to an increase of 6.8 per cent.

Total retail sales in Norway during the first four months of 2008 came to more than NOK 99 billion. In March and April, retail sales rose by NOK 2.3 billion, or 4.6 per cent, compared with the same period last year.

Wholesale up NOK 24 billion

The turnover in wholesale rose by NOK 23.9 billion during the first four months of 2008 compared with the same period in 2007. This is equivalent to an increase of 10.3 per cent. In March and April wholesalers experienced a growth in sales of NOK 10.7 billion or 8.9 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Sales of motor vehicles and petrol up

Compared with the same period last year, sales of motor vehicles rose by 6.3 per cent during the first four months this year. In the same period, sales of petrol increased by 10.4 per cent. In March and April the growth was 5.5 and 8.9 per cent respectively.

The figures do not include value added tax.
