Retail sales up NOK 8.9 billion

Retail sales increased by NOK 8.9 billion the first eight months this year compared to the same period in 2005. This is equivalent to an increase of 5.0 per cent.

Total retail sales in Norway the first eight months were NOK 185.8 billion. In July and August, retail sales rose by NOK 2.2 billion, or 4.2 per cent, compared to the same period last year.

Wholesaling rose by NOK 48 billion

Sales by wholesalers rose by NOK 48 billion the first eight months of 2006 compared to the same period in 2005. This is equivalent to an increase of 12.1 per cent. In July and August wholesalers had a growth of NOK 13 billion or 13.3 per cent compared to July and August 2005.

Sales of petrol and motor vehicles up

Compared to the same period last year, sales of petrol increased by 9.2 per cent in the first eight months of 2006. In the same period, sales of motor vehicles rose by 6.2 per cent. In July and August 2006 the growth was respectively 7.6 and 7.8 per cent.

The figures do not include value added tax.
