Retail sales up NOK 3 billion

Retail sales - with the exception of motor vehicles and petrol - increased by NOK 3.0 billion in the second period (March and April) of 2004 compared with the same period of 2003. This is equivalent to an increase of 8.1 per cent.

Other retail sales of new goods in specialized stores rose by NOK 1.6 billion from the second period of 2003 to the second period of 2004. This is equivalent to an increase of 11.2 per cent. This sector consists of clothing, shoes, electrical goods, furniture and building materials. Retail sales in non-specialized stores, which mainly include grocery stores, rose by NOK 1.1 billion, or 6.1 per cent.

Large growth in sales of motor vehicles

Sales of motor vehicles rose by NOK 3.2 billion in the second period of 2004 compared with the same period in 2003. This is equivalent to a 24.5 per cent decrease. Retail sales of automotive fuel rose by 3.9 per cent in the same period.

Growth in wholesale

Wholesalers increased their sales by NOK 8.8 billion from the second period of 2003 to the second period of 2004. This is equivalent to an increase of 10.3 per cent.
