Retail sales up NOK 10.5 billion

Retail sales - with the exception of motor vehicles and petrol - increased by NOK 10.5 billion from 2002 to 2003. This is equivalent to an increase of 4.4 per cent. Total retail sales in Norway were almost NOK 249 billion in 2003.

All sales in this connection exclude value-added tax.

Retail sales not in stores increased by 8.8 per cent in 2003 compared with 2002. This sector consists retail sale via mail order houses. Retail sales in non-specialized stores, which mainly include grocery stores, rose by 4.9 per cent from 2002 to 2003. Other retail sales of new goods in specialized stores increased by 3.9 per cent. This sector consists of clothing, shoes, electrical goods, furniture and building materials. Stores selling pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetic and toilet articles increased sales by 3.7 per cent during the same period.

NOK 1.7 billion more in the 6th period

In November - December (6th period) 2003, retail sales increased by NOK 1.7 billion or 3.5 per cent compared with the same period 2002. Retail sales not in stores increased by 9.2 per cent the same period. Other retail sales of new goods in specialized stores rose by 4.1 per cent. Retail sales in non-specialized stores and retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores rose by 3.1 and 2.1 per cent respectively in November and December 2003 compared with the corresponding period 2002.

Sales of motor vehicles and petrol up NOK 6.3 billion

Sales of motor vehicles and petrol increased by NOK 6.3 billion, an increase of 4.4 per cent from 2002 to 2003. In November - December (6th period) 2003, sales of motor vehicles and petrol rose by 6.4 per cent.

Wholesaling increased by NOK 14.4 billion

Wholesalers increased sales by NOK 14.4 billion from 2002 to 2003, an increase of 2.7 per cent. In November - December 2003 wholesalers had a growth of 4.1 per cent compared with the same period 2002.
