Retail sales increased by NOK 8.6 billion

Retailers, with the exception of motor vehicles and petrol, increased sales by NOK 8.6 billion during the first ten months in 2003 compared with the corresponding period in 2002. This is equivalent to an increase of 4.5 per cent.

All sales in this connection exclude value-added tax.

Retail sales in non-specialized stores, which mainly include grocery stores, increased by NOK 4.5 billion from the first ten months in 2002 to the first ten months in 2003. This is equivalent to 5.1 per cent. Other retail sales of new goods in specialized stores increased by NOK 2.9 billion, or 3.8 per cent. This sector consists of clothing, shoes, electrical goods, furniture and building materials. Stores selling pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetic and toilet articles increased sales by 4.2 per cent, or NOK 464 million.

NOK 2.6 billion more in 5th period

In September - October (5th period) 2003, retail sales increased by NOK 2.6 billion or 6.6 per cent compared with the same period 2002. Retail sales in non-specialized stores rose by 5.1 per cent. Retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores increased by 4.8 per cent from the 5th period in 2002 to the 5th period in 2003.

Sales of motor vehicles up NOK 2.1 billion

Sales of motor vehicles increased by NOK 2.1 billion, equivalent to an increase of 3.2 per cent during the first ten month in 2003 compared with the corresponding period in 2002. Retail sale of petrol increased by NOK 1.2 billion, equivalent to an increase of 4.3 per cent during this period. In the 5t h period sales of motor vehicles rose by 13.3 per cent during the same period in 2002. Retail sale of petrol increased with 4.9 per cent this period.

Wholesaling increased by NOK 10.1 billion

Wholesalers increased sales by NOK 10.1 billion from the first ten month in 2002 to the first ten months in 2003, an increase of 2.3 per cent.
