No changes in the consumption of goods

The seasonally adjusted volume index of commodity consumption showed no changes from March to April.

The unadjusted volume index of commodity consumption was 8.3 per cent higher in April this year than in April last year. From January to April the unadjusted volume index was 3.7 per cent higher than it was in the corresponding period last year.

Due to a revision in the model used for the calculation of the index of commodity consumption, relating to an ongoing revision of the National Accounts, the index figures are not directly comparable with earlier editions.

The calculation of the index of commodity consumption is based on information from the Index of retail sales. In addition, the index of commodity consumption uses information about purchases of cars and motorcycles, sales of petrol and oil, to petrol stations, and household consumption of electricity.

The index of commodity consumption uses the same definitions and methods of compilation as the Quarterly National Accounts. The index of commodity consumption is thus an indicator of household consumption of goods in the Quarterly National Accounts.
