Increased cross border trade

Norwegians went on 1.8 million day trips abroad and spent NOK 2.8 billion on cross border trade in the 2nd quarter of 2009. In the first six months of 2009, the number of trips reached 3.0 million and shopping spending reached NOK 4.8 billion.

Compared with the first six months of 2008, there has been an increase of 10 per cent in the number of trips and 20 per cent in shopping spending.

The time for Easter varies from year to year, which makes it difficult to compare data for the 1st and 2nd quarters each year. In 2009, Easter was in the 2nd quarter, while Easter 2008 was in the 1st quarter. The retrospective comparisons have therefore focused on the first six months of the year.
