Increased cross border trade

Norwegians went on 1.3 million day trips abroad and spent NOK 2.0 billion on cross border trade in the 1s t quarter of 2009. Compared with the 1s t quarters of 2006 and 2007, where most of Easter was also in the 2n d quarter, shopping spending increased by roughly 18 per cent, while the number of trips increased by 4-5 per cent.

The time for Easter varies from year to year, which makes it difficult to compare data for 1s t and 2n d quarters each year. In 2009, Easter was in the 2n d quarter, while Easter 2008 was in the 1s t quarter. The retrospective comparisons have therefore focused on 2006 and 2007.
