Decline in alcohol sales

Sales of wine and beer decreased by 3.9 and 1.8 per cent respectively in the 3rd quarter of this year compared with the same period last year. This represents a decrease of about 700 000 litres of wine and 1.2 million litres of beer.

Registered turnover in the 3rd quarter this year was 17.7 million litres of wine and 65.6 million litres of beer. Spirits and alcopops, however, had an increase of 23 000 and 220 000 litres respectively in the same period. The turnover during this period was 2.7 million litres of spirits and 4.1 million litres of alcopops.

The total turnover of pure alcohol was 126 000 litres or 1.9 percent less in the 3rd quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

In the first nine months of this year, total turnover of pure alcohol was 18.4 million litres, which is a decrease of 276 000 litres, or 1.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2013. The total turnover of pure alcohol was distributed between 8.2 million litres of beer, 6.7 million litres of wine, 2.9 million litres of spirits and almost 500 000 litres of alcopops.
