Decline in sales of spirits

The registered turnover of spirits decreased by more than 250 000 litres in the first half of 2014 compared to the same period last year. This represents a decrease of 5 per cent.

The total registered turnover of wine was 36.7 million litres, which is on a par with the first half of last year. Sales of beer were 117 million litres and showed a slight decrease during the first half of this year, while alcopops increased by 364 000 litres, or 5.7 per cent.

During the 2nd quarter of this year, the turnover of wine, beer and spirits rose by 8.0, 2.8 and 1.6 per cent respectively compared to the same period last year. These figures are affected by the timing of Easter.

Decrease in litres of pure alcohol

The total turnover of pure alcohol decreased by 150 000 litres in the first half of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013. This is equivalent to a decrease of 1.2 per cent. The total turnover of pure alcohol was distributed between 5.3 million litres of beer, 4.5 million litres of wine, 1.9 million litres of spirits and 302 000 litres of alcopops.
