Retail sales up 1.1 per cent
The seasonally adjusted index of retail sales exclusive petrol stations increased by 1.1 per cent from December 2008 to January 2009.
The index of retail sales are published according to a new version of Norwegian industry classification. In the new classification, petrol stations are part of retail sales. The seasonally adjusted index of retail sales inclusive petrol stations rose by 0.6 per cent from December last year to January this year.
The non adjusted volume index exclusive petrol stations, increased by 1.6 per cent from January 2008 to January 2009. In the same period, the volume index inclusive petrol stations rose by 0.7 per cent. The sales from petrol stations decreased by 6.7 per cent in volume during this period.
From January last year to January this year the value index exclusive petrol stations and inclusive petrol stations rose by 3.1 and 2.2 per cent respectively.

Important announcement: New industry classification
A new version of Norwegian industry classification (SIC2007) has been implemented from January 2009. The most important change is that the petrol stations have been included in retail sales.
Changes in the model for seasonally adjusting
An improved model for seasonally adjusting has been applied from the January 2009 publishing. As a supplement to seasonal variations, the new model takes into account the effect of weekdays, fixed holidays as 1s t and 17t hMay, Easter, Pentecost, Ascension Day and 1s tNew Year's Day. 24t h to 26t h of December are considered as seasonal variations.
