Norwegians are shopping less

The seasonally adjusted volume index of retail sales decreased by 0.9 per cent from September to October this year, and it has not been at this level since January this year. Nearly all business sectors have experienced a decrease from September to October this year.

The volume index without adjustment increased by 0.7 per cent from October 2007 to October 2008, while the value index increased by 3.0 per cent in the same period.

Decrease in Denmark and Norway

A comparison of the seasonally adjusted volume indices for the Scandinavian countries shows a decrease of 0.5 per cent in both Denmark and Norway, while Sweden had an increase of 0.2 per cent. From September 2007 to September 2008 the value index without adjustment decreased by 0.1 per cent in Denmark, while it rose in Norway and Sweden by 4.7 and 3.8 per cent respectively.
