Retail sales up

The seasonally-adjusted volume index of retail sales increased by 0.8 per cent from February to March 2006.

The sales index for March is difficult to compare with the same month in 2005 due to Easter. The seasonally-adjusted index takes Easter into account, but it is difficult to correct for Easter shopping. The seasonally-adjusted index for March is therefore more uncertain than the seasonally-adjusted indices for the other months.
