Retail sales up

The seasonally adjusted volume index of retail sales rose by 1.0 per cent from June to July 2005.

The volume index not adjusted increased by 4.7 per cent in July 2005 compared with July 2004. Retail sales of new goods in specialized stores increased by 8.2 per cent in this period. Sales of new goods in specialized stores include clothing, shoes, electrical goods, furniture and building materials.

The value index of retail sales increased by 3.4 per cent in this period.

Corrected volume index

The volume index has been adjusted down by 0.2 per cent for the period January to June 2005 and up by 0.7 per cent in May and June 2004. This is due to new information regarding the distribution of sales within the three different levels of value-added tax that influence the calculation of price growth.
