Slight increase in retail sales

The seasonally adjusted volume index of retail sales rose by 0.3 per cent from December 2004 to January 2005.

The volume index not adjusted decreased by 1.0 per cent in January 2005 compared with January last year. Retail sales not in stores, which include retail sales via mail order houses, rose by 18.4 per cent in volume in this period. Retail sales in non-specialized stores, which mainly include food stores, decreased by 5.1 per cent in volume from January 2004 to January 2005.

The total value index of retail sales increased by 4.6 per cent in this period.
