Retail sales of food rose 7.7 per cent
The value index of retail sales in non-specialised stores, which mainly include grocery stores, rose by 7.7 per cent from August 2001 to August 2002. Total retail sales in Norway increased by 4.0 per cent the same period.
The value index of retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores rose by 4.1 per cent in August 2002 compared with August 2001. The index of pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetic and toilet articles increased by 1.8 per cent the same period. The value of retail sale of new goods in specialized stores increased by 1.4 per cent the same period. This sector includes clothing shoes, electrical goods, furniture and building materials.
The volume index of retail sales increased by 2.0 per cent from August 2001 to August 2002.
Seasonally adjusted volume index
The seasonally adjusted volume index of retail sales decreased 0.2 per cent in August 2002 compared with July 2002. Compared with August last year the seasonally adjusted volume index increased 1.8 per cent.
The final retail sales value index for August is 0.1 per cent higher than the preliminary index published in 23. September.
