The seasonally adjusted volume index

The seasonally adjusted volume index was unchanged from March to April this year and increased by 3.8 per cent in April 2002 compared with April 2001. The seasonally adjusted volume index takes the timing of Easter into account. There is nevertheless considerable uncertainty in the model we use to correct for Easter. The seasonally adjusted index for March and April is therefore more uncertain than the index for the other months.

The final retail sales value index for April 2002 is equal to the preliminary index published 23t h of May.
