Seasonally adjusted volume index up 0.8 per cent

The seasonally adjusted volume index of retail sales rose by 0.8 per cent in January 2002 compared with December 2001. The seasonally adjusted volume index in January 2002 is 0.2 per cent above the average of the last three months.

The volume index of retail sales not seasonally adjusted increased 4.3 per cent in January 2002 compared with January 2001. During the same period the value index rose by 6.1 per cent.

Preliminary results

These preliminary results are based on a sample of 8 950 responds. Before the publication of the final results of the retail sales index for January 2002, we expect to receive another 1200 responds. The final results, to be published 8t h of March 2002, may therefore be adjusted.
