Retail sales increased 6 billion

Retail sales in Norway increased by NOK 6 billion in 2001 compared with 2000, or up 2.8 per cent. Total turnover amounted to NOK 222.9 billion in 2001.

Retail sale is exclusive sales of motor vehicles and petrol, and all amounts are excluded VAT.

In 2001 the volume index of retail sales rose by 0.8 per cent compared with 2000, but in December 2001 the volume index of retail sales increased by 1.7 per cent compared with December 2000.

The seasonally adjusted volume index of retail sales decreased by 1.0 per cent in December 2001 compared with November. The seasonally adjusted volume index is 1.2 per cent lower in December than average for the year 2001.

The final retail sales value index for December is 0.2 per cent higher than the preliminary index published January 23.
