Seasonally adjusted volume index up 1.6 per cent

The seasonally adjusted volume index of retail sales increased by 1.6 per cent in November 2001 compared with October 2001.

The volume index not adjusted rose 5.4 per cent in November 2001 compared with November 2000.The value index of retail sales increased by 7.2 per cent in the same period. The index excludes sales of motorized vehicles and petrol.

Preliminary results

These preliminary results are based on a sample of 9 400 responds. Before the publication of the final results of the retail sales index for November 2001, we expect to receive another 750 responds. The final results, to be published January 2002, may therefore be adjusted.
