Retail sales up 13.3 per cent

The value index of retail sales increased with 13.3 per cent in May 2000 compared with May 1999. May 2000 includes tree more trading days compared with May 1999.

The volume index of retail sales increased 11.6 per cent and the price index increased 1.5 per cent in the same period. Retail sales figures exclude motor vehicles and petrol. Due to atypical pattern of several public holidays in May, the publication of seasonally adjusted statistic for this month is postponed to the next publication of the index in June.

Final Retail sales volume index for May is 0.6 per cent points less than preliminary figures published June 23. The volume index of retail sales for the period January - May 2000 is 0.2 per cent less than preliminary figures.
