Income on par with costs

Total running incomes for all private schools in the survey amounted to slightly more than NOK 4.6 billion; about the same as total operating costs.

Among schools eligible for state subsidies, labour costs accounted for 55 per cent of total operating costs in 2009, compared with 52 per cent in 2008.

73 per cent in state subsidies

Sales income for schools eligible for state subsidies declined by 6 percentage points compared with 2008, and amounted to 15 per cent of total running income in 2009. School fees from pupils/students made up the major part of sales income. Municipal subsidies were about the same as last year and amounted to 4 per cent of total running income in 2009.

Schools in the survey

The results above refer to the 188 private schools in the survey eligible for state subsidies and 44 schools not eligible for such subsidies. The former are lower and upper secondary schools, whereas the latter also comprise tertiary institutions.
