State subsidies main source of income

State subsidies were the largest source of income for private compulsory schools and private upper-secondary schools in 2005. These subsidies came to NOK 1.2 billion for the 189 schools participating in this survey.

Sales income is another large source of income in the schools annual accounts. The 189 schools in this survey generated NOK 363 mill. in sales income during 2005. The sales income mainly consists of tuition fee from the households. Total running income for all the schools were approximately NOK 1.7 billion. While the compulsory schools earned NOK 635 mill, the corresponding number for upper-secondary schools was NOK 1.1 billion.

Income equals costs

Among schools participating in this survey labour costs were the largest operating cost. The schools labour costs in all amounted to NOK 867 mill, that was NOK 370 mill in compulsory schools and NOK 497 mill in upper-secondary schools. The total operating costs for all 189 schools came to almost NOK 1.7 billion and were about the same amount as the schools total running income.
