Sales up in transport

As a total, sales for transport enterprises increased in 1999. The supporting and auxiliary activities had the highest rise with a growth of 10 per cent compared with 1998.

At the enterprise level, activities rose in all transport areas in 1999. Transport via railways, air transport and ocean transport are not included in these statistics. Value added tax is not included in sales figures.

Increased sales in land transport and water transport

Enterprises in land transport managed close to NOK 38.3 billion in sales in 1999, an increase of 8 per cent compared with 1998. The total number of employees was close to 62 800 persons in 1999, about the same as the year before.

The local kind-of-activity units in this industry employed close to 63 600 persons in 1999 and had a total of NOK 40.7 billion in sales.

Total sales for enterprises in the included parts of water transport, increased with 4 per cent to NOK 7.3 billion in 1999. The total number of employees was close to 9 500 persons, a rise of 4 per cent compared with 1998.

The local kind-of-activity units in this classification group employed 8 800 persons in 1999 and managed a total of NOK 6.7 billion in sales.

Rise in supporting activities

Total sales for enterprises in supporting and auxiliary transport activities rose to NOK 351 billion in 1999. This is an increase of 10 per cent compared with 1998. Total number of employees increased by 4 per cent to close to 20 3001 persons.

Travel agencies, tour operators and tourist assistance activities had a total of 6 300 employees in 1999 and managed a total of NOK 24.2 billion in sales.

As a whole, enterprises in industrial classification group supporting and auxiliary transport activities and activities of travel agencies employed close to 26 6001 persons in 1999 and managed a total of NOK 59.21 billion in sales.

The local kind-of-activity units in this classification group employed close to 26 5001 persons in 1999 and managed a total of close to NOK 57.21 billion in sales.
