Turnover, by industry subclass. Local KAUs. 2001

Large turnover in freight forwarding services

Total turnover in freight forwarding services was NOK 17.6 billion, the highest turnover of the many different subclasses in this industry division. This industry subclass also employed 7 690 persons in 2001, the highest number of persons employed in any of the industry subclasses connected to supporting and auxiliary transport activities.

The local KAUs in other supporting air transport activities employed 3 555 persons and had a total turnover of NOK 6.1 billion in 2001, while the local KAUs in central agencies for goods and transportation procurement employed 2 201 persons and managed a total turnover of NOK 5.7 billion.

Large local KAUs dominate

The industry division is dominated by the large local KAUs. For instance, total turnover in the 74 local KAUs with 50-249 employed persons was NOK 14.9 billion in 2001, while total turnover in the local KAUs with 20-49 persons was NOK 9.2 billion. In comparison, total turnover in the 957 local KAUs with 0-1 employed persons was close to NOK 3.3 billion.

High level of activity in Oslo and Akershus

Figures on the county level show that Oslo had about one third of the total activity in supporting and auxiliary transport activities in 2001, followed by Akershus and Hordaland with shares of about 15 and ten per cent, respectively. Aust-Agder, Oppland and Finnmark had the lowest share of the total activity in this industry division in 2001.

Restructurings and revisions

A certain degree of restructuring took place in some parts of the supporting and auxiliary transport activities industry division in 2001. Users should also note that revision of industry codes in the Central Register of Establishments and Enterprises have led to changes for some of the industries. Subsequently, the figures for 2001 are not always fully comparable to previously published figures for 2000 and 1999.

Statistics on the enterprise level

The structural business statistics for supporting and auxiliary transport activities are compiled both on the local KAU level and on the enterprise level. On the enterprise level total turnover decreased by two per cent to NOK 46.9 billion in 2001, while the total number of persons employed were 21 380.

Figures on the enterprise level will usually deviate somewhat from figures compiled on the local KAU level. This is due to the fact that enterprises are registered in the industry subclass that comprises the main part of the activity of the enterprise, and therefore may be registered in a different industry than some of the local KAUs within the enterprise. For more information about these and other definitions used in the structural business statistics for supporting and auxiliary transport activities, see "About the statistics".

Travel services

Activities of travel agencies, tour operators and tourist assistance activities are not included in these figures. Statistics for this industry group are published together with other tourism related statistics at http://www.ssb.no/streiseby_en .
