Employment, by industry subclass. Local KAUs. 2000

Large sales in freight forwarding services

The local KAUs in central agencies for goods and transportation procurement managed a turnover of NOK 4.8 billion, while the local KAUs in ship brokerage services managed a turnover of NOK 4.2 billion.

... and a large number of employees

There were a total of 4 965 employees in local KAUs connected to freight forwarding services in 2000, while there were 3 438 persons employed in the industry subclass other supporting air transport activities, mainly airports. Central agencies for goods and transportation procurement came in third with 2 234 persons employed in 2002.

Lowest sales in rescue services

In the other end of the scale, the local KAUs connected to rescue services had 128 employees and a turnover of NOK 51 million in 2000. One step up the ladder, the local KAUs in cargo handling connected to air transport managed a turnover of NOK 72 million, while the local KAUs in aircraft brokerage services managed a turnover of NOK 94 million.

High level of investments in supporting air transport activities

The local KAUs in the industry subclass other supporting air transport activities invested a total of NOK 1.5 billion in 2000. On the next level, the local KAUs connected to operations of harbours invested a total of NOK 0.6 billion, while the local KAUs connected to toll bar stations invested a total of NOK 0.3 billion.

Restructuring in the industry division

2000 was a year with a large degree of restructuring in the supporting and auxiliary transport activities. Users should also note that revision of industry codes in the Central Register of Establishments and Enterprises have led to considerable changes for some of the industries. Subsequently, the figures for 2000 are not fully comparable to previously published figures for 1999.

Statistics on the enterprise level

The structural business statistics for supporting and auxiliary transport activities are compiled both on the local KAU level and on the enterprise level. On the enterprise level turnover was NOK 38.4 billion in 2000, while the total number of employees was 19 427 persons.

Figures on the enterprise level will usually deviate somewhat from figures compiled on the local KAU level. This is due to the fact that enterprises are registered in the industry subclass that comprises the main part of the activity of the enterprise, and therefore may be registered in a different industry than some of the local KAUs within the enterprise (see section 3 and 4 of "About the statistics").

Travel services

Activities of travel agencies, tour operators and tourist assistance activities are not included in these figures. Statistics for this industry group are published together with other tourism related statistics at http://www.ssb.no/english/subjects/10/11/
