NOK 8.1 billion turnover
Domestic shipping enterprises took in NOK 8.1 billion in 1998. The companies employed just over 10 000 persons, and the industry had nearly NOK 3 billion in wages and social costs. Gross investments were nearly NOK 1.3 billion.
Turnover figures are published without VAT.
Unscheduled transport in Norwegian coastal waters: NOK 1.6 billion
Enterprises involved in unscheduled transport in Norwegian coastal waters had a turnover of NOK 1.6 billion in 1998, and had 1 278 employees. Wage and social costs for the enterprises in this class amounted to just over NOK 300 million, and gross investments in 1998 were NOK 153 million.
Scheduled long-distance inland transport in coastal waters: Low investments
The industrial class scheduled long-distance inland transport in coastal waters is the largest industrial class in domestic shipping, with a turnover of NOK 2.6 billion. 2 551 persons were employed in scheduled long-distance inland transport in coastal waters, with wages and social costs of NOK 826 million. The gross investments of this industrial class were, however, modest in relation to other classes, with nearly NOK 74 million in 1998.
Inland ferry transport in public road connections: Highest employment
Inland ferry transport had a turnover of just over NOK 1.4 billion in 1998. Compared with the other classes in domestic shipping, inland ferry transport had the largest employment, with 2 773 persons. Their wages and social costs amounted to nearly NOK 841 million, and the gross investments of this class were NOK 193 million.
Tugs and supply vessels in Norwegian coastal waters: NOK 1 billion
The industrial class tugs and supply vessels in Norwegian coastal waters had a turnover of NOK 1 billion in 1998. There were 618 employees in the industrial class and NOK 323 million in wages and social costs. Gross investments were NOK 228 million in 1998.
Other coastal water transport in Norway: NOK 1.5 billion
Enterprises in the industrial group other coastal water transport in Norway had a turnover of NOK 1.5 billion. Employment was 2 742, and wages and social costs were the second highest in domestic shipping, with NOK 686 million. Gross investments were nearly NOK 638 million.
Inland water transport: NOK 13 million
Enterprises in the industrial class inland water transport were naturally the smallest within domestic shipping. The enterprises had a turnover of NOK 13 million. Employment was 36, with just over NOK 4 million in wages. In 1998 gross investments were nearly NOK 1 million.
