Turnover slightly up in ocean transport

Water transport had a turnover in 2008 of NOK 131. 5 billion, compared to NOK 125.8 billion in 2007; an increase of 4.6 per cent.

The industry division of water transport employed 25 362 persons in 2008, compared to 25 759 in 2007; a decrease of 1.5 per cent .The number of enterprises fell from 1 771 in 2007 to 1 729 in 2008; a decrease of 2.4 per cent.

Strong growth in turnover for air transport

Air transport consisted of 98 enterprises in 2008 with 7 308 persons employed and a turnover of NOK 24.3 billion in 2008. In 2007, turnover amounted to NOK 22.1 billion. While turnover increased by 10 per cent, employment remained stable. Within air transport, passenger air transport dominates with a turnover of NOK 23.6 billion in 2008. Turnover in this industry sub division was NOK 21.5 billion in 2007.

Strong growth in land transport continued

Land transport had a turnover of NOK 67.7 billion in 2008, compared to NOK 62.7 billion in 2007, which is an increase of 8 per cent. The average number of persons increased by 1 013 persons to 69 540 in 2008, from 68 527 in 2007. The number of enterprises fell from 16 846 in 2007 to 16 828 in 2008.

Land transport on road increased turnover

The turnover increased by 8.9 per cent from 2007 to 2008. The growth in turnover was NOK 3.4 billion, from NOK 38.5 billion in 2007 to NOK 41.9 billion in 2008.

Preliminary figures

The preliminary figures for number of enterprises, turnover and employment for transportation and storage are published while data are still being revised. The results may therefore deviate somewhat from final figures published at a later date. While preliminary figures are published on the enterprise level only, final figures are published on both the enterprise level and the local kind-of-activity unit level

Important announcement: Transition to a new industry classification

A new version of the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC2007) was implemented in January 2009. The structural statistics for the reference year 2008 are published according to both the new and previous standard. Figures for 2007 will also be published according to the new standard.
