Record turnover for sea freight water transport in 2014

Turnover of sea and coastal freight water transport increased by 9.5 per cent from 2013 to 2014. With NOK 141.9 billion, turnover in this industry group was the highest ever.

The entire water transport industry division, which also includes passenger transport, had a record high turnover of NOK 155.2 billion in 2014. While turnover increased by 9.3 per cent from the year before, the number of enterprises decreased by 6.4 per cent, to just fewer than 1 700. The number of persons employed has remained relatively stable, with a decline of 0.5 per cent in the same period.

Air transport turnover of almost NOK 41 billion

Turnover of the air transport industry division accounted for NOK 40.9 billion in 2014; a strong increase of NOK 6.2 billion from the previous year. 'Passenger air transport', which is the dominant industry group in the air transport, had a turnover of NOK 40.3 billion in 2014 compared to NOK 34.2 billion a year earlier. Number of persons employed decreased by 5.6 per cent, to 7 000, while the number of enterprises fell by 8.1 per cent.

Land transport has continued good growth in turnover

Enterprises within the land transport industry division, which includes all land-based passenger and freight transport, increased by 4.1 per cent to NOK 78.6 billion in 2014. The number of persons employed increased by 1.8 per cent, while the number of enterprises fell by 2.0 per cent and amounted to 15 500.

Growth also for warehousing and support activities for transportation

The industry division for ‘warehousing and support activities for transportation’ had a turnover of NOK 99.3 billion in 2014 compared to NOK 93.3 billion in 2013. The industry group 'support activities for transportation' had the strongest turnover growth in the period by 6.5 per cent and amounted to NOK 96.6 billion in 2014.

Continued decline in number of persons employed for postal and courier activities

The number of persons employed in the 'postal and courier activities' industry division fell by 2.8 per cent from the previous year, to 19 100 employees in 2014. The level of turnover was almost unchanged and amounted to NOK 16.5 billion.

Substantial growth for transport and storage

Turnover of the industry section ‘transportation and storage’ totalled NOK 390.5 billion in 2014; an increase of 7.9 per cent from the previous year. Number of persons employed rose slightly to 153 600, while there was a small decrease in the number of enterprises by 2.4 per cent, to 21 000.
