Record high production value in water transport

The production value in the industry division of water transport increased by almost 10 per cent from 2011 to 2012. At NOK 134 billion, the value of production surpassed that of the pre-financial crisis year of 2008 for the first time.

Value added went up by 17 per cent, while the gross operating surplus increased by 26 per cent. A gross operating surplus of NOK 27 billion in 2012 was generated with the help of 25 500 employees. Employment is barely 2 per cent above that of 2011.

Weak growth in land transport

The production value went from NOK 70 billion in 2011 to NOK 72.6 billion in 2012; a relative growth of less than 4 per cent. Value added saw a similar relative growth and ended up at NOK 35.4 billion in 2012.

The dominant industry group within the industry division of land transport is freight transport by road, where production increased by more than 4 per cent. The value of production ended up at NOK 45 billion in 2012, making for a value added of NOK 16 billion.

Growth throughout the industry section

Water transport, land transport, air transport, warehousing, and postal and courier are all industry divisions in the industry section of transportation and storage. The total production value in this industry section was NOK 338 billion in 2012. Value added came to NOK 125 billion; 7 per cent higher than the previous year. Gross operating surplus at NOK 55 billion is NOK 12 billion more than in 2011.
